Privacy Policy — Discord Summarizer Extension
Last updated: 2026-02-03
This Privacy Policy explains how Firebender LLC ("we", "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Discord Summarizer Chrome Extension (the "Extension").
Not affiliated with Discord. The Extension is an independent tool and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Discord.
1) Quick summary (plain English)
- We summarize the messages you choose to summarize.
- Your selected message content is sent to our server only to create a summary and return it to you.
- We do not store summaries on our servers.
- We keep temporary server logs for up to 30 minutes for security, abuse prevention, and debugging.
- We do not sell your data.
2) What information we process
A. Content you choose to summarize
When you click "Summarize" (or similar actions), the Extension collects the minimum information needed to summarize:
- Message text you selected (or the messages in the visible range you requested)
- Basic context needed for the summary (e.g., author display name as shown, message IDs, timestamps if available)
We do not collect your entire Discord account data. We only process the specific message content that the Extension needs to produce the summary.
B. Technical / operational data
When the Extension calls our server, our systems may receive:
- Your IP address
- Request metadata (timestamp, approximate request size, success/error codes)
- Basic device/browser info (user agent)
This data is used for security, abuse prevention, and troubleshooting.
C. Payment / subscription data (if applicable)
If you purchase a subscription, payment is processed by the payment provider (e.g., Stripe). We may receive limited information such as:
- Customer identifier from the payment provider
- Subscription status (active/canceled)
We do not receive or store your full card details.
3) What we do not collect
- We do not ask for or collect your Discord password.
- We do not read your private messages unless you are viewing them and you explicitly request a summary.
- We do not collect your full browsing history.
- We do not collect or store Discord authentication tokens.
4) How we use the information
We use the information described above to:
- Generate the summary you requested
- Improve reliability and prevent abuse (rate limiting, bot detection)
- Debug errors and monitor performance
We do not use your message content to build user profiles, advertise to you, or sell data.
5) Data retention
A. Message content and summaries
- Message content: processed in-memory for the purpose of generating a summary.
- Summaries: returned to you; not stored on our servers.
B. Server logs
- We keep temporary logs for up to 30 minutes.
- Logs are intended to include technical metadata (e.g., request timing, status) and should not include full message content.
- If an error occurs, a log entry may include a short, redacted snippet to help diagnose the issue.
- After 30 minutes, logs are automatically deleted as part of our routine operations.
6) Sharing and disclosure
We share data only as necessary:
A. Service providers
To provide summaries, we may send the selected message content to an AI model provider (e.g., OpenAI) strictly to generate the summary. These providers act as processors on our behalf.
B. Legal requirements
We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or legal process.
C. Business transfers
If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
We do not sell personal information.
7) Security
We use reasonable safeguards designed to protect data in transit and at rest, such as:
- HTTPS/TLS encryption for network traffic
- Access controls for systems
- Rate limiting and abuse detection
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to reduce risk.
8) Your choices and controls
- You control what is summarized by choosing when to run the Extension.
- You can uninstall the Extension at any time to stop data processing.
If you want us to investigate an issue, you can contact us during the 30-minute log window; otherwise, we may no longer have technical logs related to your request.
9) Chrome permissions (why we need them)
Depending on your build, the Extension may request permissions such as:
- activeTab / host permissions (discord.com): to read the message content on the page you are viewing, only when you trigger summarization.
- storage: to save your preferences (e.g., language, summary length).
We do not use permissions to collect unrelated browsing data.
10) Children’s privacy
The Extension is not intended for children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your region). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
11) International users
If you use the Extension from outside the United States, your information may be processed in the United States or other locations where our service providers operate.
12) Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date above. Material changes may also be communicated within the Extension or on our website.
